Zefyr Media Fund

Overview

Zefyr Media Fund is a regional film fund dedicated to fostering audiovisual production in Western and Southern Norway. Established in 2016 through the merger of Filmkraft Fond and Film Fund Fuzz, it is owned by Bergen Municipality and Rogaland County Municipality. The fund manages both state funding and private equity, investing in feature films, documentaries, TV series, computer games, and VR productions. It operates as a hybrid entity, combining public and private capital to strengthen the regional industry. The fund's investment approach is commercially driven, focusing on projects with strong revenue potential relative to risk. It allocates between NOK 25 million and NOK 35 million (approximately USD 2.37 million to USD 3.32 million) annually to support the production of high-quality audiovisual content. Over the past five years, Zefyr has invested more than NOK 133 million and distributed NOK 83 million in grants, supporting 246 audiovisual productions and generating NOK 733 million in economic impact for the regions where it operates. Zefyr's portfolio includes a diverse range of productions, such as feature films like 'Stepsisters' (2025), 'Spermageddon' (2025), 'Armand' (2024), and 'Victoria Must Die' (2024). In television, it has supported series like 'RIP Henry' (2023) for Viaplay, as well as 'State of Happiness' Season 2 (2022) and 'Rykter' Season 2 (2022) for NRK. The fund is also open to international collaborations, aiming to attract projects that contribute to the growth and sustainability of the regional audiovisual industry. Zefyr operates from its headquarters in Bergen, Norway, and is an integral part of the Media City Bergen cluster, which gathers major players in the media industry. This co-location facilitates synergies between companies and fosters a thriving environment for audiovisual production. The fund's mission is to develop a thriving audiovisual industry by funding the best projects from regional producers and creatives, while championing Western Norway as a leading destination for international film and series production.
