Overview
aBi is a Ugandan government agency established to promote private sector investment in agriculture, aiming to enhance economic transformation and climate resilience. It channels development cooperation funding to agribusinesses and agricultural service providers in Uganda, focusing on building a strong and competitive agriculture sector. aBi was jointly founded by the Governments of Uganda and Denmark in 2010. The agency operates through two distinct entities: aBi Development Ltd and aBi Finance Ltd. aBi Development Ltd focuses on providing business development services and matching grants to agribusinesses, farmer organizations, and intermediaries. aBi Finance Ltd aims to improve access to finance for agribusinesses by offering lines of credit, guarantees, and capacity-building programs for financial institutions. aBi's current business plan aims to improve the profitability, income, and employment of Ugandan farmers and agribusinesses. The objectives include increasing smallholder farmers' sustainable production, enhancing agribusinesses' overall performance and sustainability, and improving aBi's efficiency and effectiveness. The agency's support spans various agricultural value chains, including maize, pulses, coffee, oilseeds, horticulture, and dairy, providing both technical and financial assistance to enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and competitiveness in these sectors.
