He is the founder, Chairman, and Chief Executive Officer of Island Capital Group LLC, a real estate merchant banking firm established in May 2003. Under his leadership, Island Capital Group has developed a diverse portfolio of real estate services companies, collectively managing assets worth over $180 billion globally. The firm's investments span various sectors, including real estate, hospitality, maritime, entertainment, media, technology, healthcare, education, retail, energy, infrastructure, transportation, telecommunications, consumer goods, and more. Prior to founding Island Capital Group, Mr. Farkas founded Insignia Financial Group in 1990, which became the largest owner and operator of multifamily residential housing in the United States. Following this, he founded Island Global Yachting (IGY Marinas), a leading owner and operator of luxury marina and port destinations in the Western Hemisphere, including locations in Italy, Mexico, St. Maarten, Panama, and France. Additionally, he serves as the CEO of C-III Capital Partners LLC, a fully diversified asset management and commercial real estate services company within the Island Capital family. Mr. Farkas is also an avid philanthropist, supporting various organizations such as The Fresh Air Fund, Playwrights of New York (PONY), The Arthur Miller Foundation, NARAL, the ASPCA, AMFAR, The Doe Fund, The Young Women’s Leadership Network, Trinity School, Harvard University, and others. He serves as Graduate Chairman of the Hasty Pudding Institute of 1770 at Harvard University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 1982. His philanthropic efforts underscore his commitment to fostering creativity and supporting communities through various charitable initiatives.
