Empower HER Fund

Overview

Empower HER Fund is a charitable foundation dedicated to funding women-led, community-based projects that directly benefit women and girls in New York City. The fund aims to uplift grassroots initiatives that drive positive change for women, girls, and communities across the city. Despite women leading most grassroots work, they receive less than 2% of all philanthropic funding, with Black women-led nonprofits receiving under 0.5% of foundation funding. Over 26% of NYC women and girls live in poverty, with Black and Latina women disproportionately impacted. Empower HER Fund seeks to address these disparities by providing grants to support initiatives that promote economic empowerment, leadership development, and community transformation. The fund offers grants up to $1,000 every quarter to women-led organizations, community groups, or individuals with community-centered projects that directly benefit women and girls in NYC. Proposals are evaluated based on innovation, sustainability, community impact, and alignment with the fund's mission. Funded proposals must address key issues such as education, health, entrepreneurship, and advocacy. Applications are accepted quarterly, with deadlines on March 1st, June 1st, September 1st, and December 1st. Incomplete or late submissions are not reviewed. Empower HER Fund is an initiative of Women's Empire, an organization committed to supporting and empowering women and girls in New York City. The fund actively seeks women interested in joining as trustees to further its mission. The fund's efforts are crucial in addressing the systemic challenges faced by women and girls in NYC, providing them with the resources and support needed to thrive and lead in their communities.
