Overview
Invest Michigan is a state-sponsored venture capital fund dedicated to advancing Michigan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem by deploying resources into Program-Related Investments (PRIs) that foster innovation, create economic opportunity, and drive social impact. As a private foundation, it embraces the higher risk inherent in supporting nascent startups, believing transformative ideas require bold investment. Its mission is to catalyze growth in early-stage companies that align with Michigan’s long-term prosperity and inclusive economic development. The fund focuses on sectors such as advanced manufacturing, life sciences, information technology, and other innovative technologies. It targets companies that are domiciled in Michigan, have their corporate headquarters in Michigan, have a significant percentage of their employees based in Michigan, or are in the process of planning an expansion in and/or relocation to Michigan. The fund is co-managed by Beringea, a Michigan-based venture capital firm experienced in geographically targeted investment programs, and GCM Grosvenor Private Markets. Invest Michigan has been active in making early investments in a diverse group of technology companies. As a result, 21 client companies have subsequently gone on to have a significant financial event. Some key representative investments include Fusion Coolant Systems, Movellus Circuits, Genomenon, Give and Take, Akadeum, Micro-LAM, and ONL Therapeutics. The fund aims to retain and attract emerging growth businesses to Michigan, nurture portfolio companies at each phase of development, enhance Michigan’s reputation for entrepreneurship, attract leading regional and national private equity and venture capital firms to the state, and further develop Michigan’s entrepreneurial ecosystem.
