Overview
Established in 2014 under the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Zimbabwe Act, the Mutapa Investment Fund (MIF) is a state-owned sovereign wealth fund dedicated to managing Zimbabwe's strategic investments and fostering sustainable economic growth. In September 2023, the fund was rebranded from the Sovereign Wealth Fund of Zimbabwe to Mutapa Investment Fund, aligning with the nation's Vision 2030 for upper-middle-income status. The fund's portfolio encompasses over 30 state-owned enterprises (SOEs) across sectors such as mining, energy, infrastructure, financial services, and agriculture, aiming to create generational wealth and support national development goals. MIF's investment strategy focuses on consolidating and managing its existing portfolio, optimizing current investments, and fostering partnerships with global investors. The fund emphasizes long-term value creation, stability, and prosperity for current and future generations. It operates as a state holding company, controlling strategic national assets across various sectors, including telecommunications, energy, mining, and agriculture. The fund is committed to applying sound corporate governance and promoting transparency and accountability in its operations. As of December 31, 2024, MIF reported a surplus of US$3.6 million and a total comprehensive income of US$8 million. The fund's assets were valued at approximately US$16 billion, comprising shares in over 30 SOEs and strategic investments. Its portfolio includes entities such as Kuvimba Mining House, ZESA Holdings, Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO), and National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ). MIF continues to strengthen corporate governance and financial performance across its portfolio companies, aligning with Zimbabwe's Vision 2030 aspirations.
