Overview

VERBUND X Ventures is the corporate venture capital unit of VERBUND AG, Austria's leading energy provider. Established in 2022, it aims to accelerate the energy transition by investing in early-stage startups that offer innovative solutions in the energy sector across Europe. The unit focuses on areas such as sustainable energy production, energy flow and flexibility, and green mobility, seeking technologies that enhance efficiency, promote decarbonization, and support electrification efforts. The investment strategy of VERBUND X Ventures includes providing growth investments to fuel the expansion and scaling of innovative startups. With a fund volume of €30 million, the unit plans to make 15 investments between 2024 and 2026, offering ticket sizes up to €2.5 million for initial investments. The team acts as a (co-)lead investor or co-investor, emphasizing a long-term commitment to foster partnerships with VERBUND's business units to help startups succeed over the long haul. In addition to financial support, VERBUND X Ventures offers specialized expertise in the energy sector, drawing on over 70 years of experience as Austria's leading energy provider. The unit connects startups with a network of industry leaders, partners, and investors, creating opportunities for growth. They provide on-demand, hands-on support from their venture team, offering mentorship to startups as needed to help them navigate their growth journey. This comprehensive approach aims to drive innovation and contribute to meeting climate goals by supporting the development and scaling of cutting-edge technologies in the energy sector.
