How to Download & Export Your Data

Why Export Your Data?

You may want to download a copy of your data for several reasons:

  • Keep a personal backup of your campaigns, templates, and personas
  • Review your engagement activity and comment history
  • Migrate to another tool or maintain records before deleting your account
  • Meet compliance or legal requirements (GDPR Article 20 — Right to Data Portability)

How to Download Your Data

  1. Log in to your ConnectSafely dashboard
  2. Click Settings in the left sidebar
  3. Scroll to the Your Data section
  4. Click the Download Data button
  5. Wait a few seconds while we prepare your export
  6. Your browser will automatically download a ZIP file

The file will be named like: connectsafely-data-yourname-2026-04-11.zip

What's Included in Your Export

The ZIP archive contains three files:

1. data-summary.html

A human-readable summary of your data that opens in any web browser. This is the easiest way to review what we have about you.

2. raw-data.json

A machine-readable JSON file containing all your data in a structured format. Use this if you want to import your data into another tool or process it programmatically.

3. README.txt

A plain text file explaining the contents of the archive.

How Often Can I Export?

You can download your data as often as you like. There is no limit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How large is the export file?

For most users, the ZIP is under 1 MB. Heavy users with a lot of comment activity may see files up to 5-10 MB.

Q: Can I import this data back into ConnectSafely?

Not currently. The export is primarily for personal backup, compliance, and migrating to other tools.

Q: Is the export secure?

Yes. The download is only available to the authenticated user, and the file contains only your personal data — never anyone else's.

Q: Should I export before deleting my account?

Yes, we strongly recommend it. Once your account is permanently deleted (after the 30-day grace period), your data cannot be recovered.
