How to use the Email Extractor

  1. 1

    Add your files

Drop up to 20 files, or click to choose them. You can also paste text into the box below.

  2. 2

    Let it read them

Each file is read in your browser, whatever its format. Duplicates are merged, and you see which file each address came from.

  3. 3

    Copy or export

Filter out role addresses like info@, sort the list, then copy it or download a CSV.

Supported file formats

The extractor recognises a file by its contents, not its name, and reads each format the way it stores text.

FormatFilesWhat it reads
PDF.pdfPage text and email links. Scanned PDFs are images and need OCR first.
Word.docx, .docBody text, tables, headers and email hyperlinks, even when an address is split in formatting.
Excel.xlsx, .xlsEvery cell on every sheet, including hidden sheets.
CSV.csv, .tsvEvery column, in UTF-8 or UTF-16.
PowerPoint.pptx, .pptText on every slide and in speaker notes.
OpenDocument.odt, .ods, .odpLibreOffice and OpenOffice documents, sheets and slides.
Email and contacts.eml, .mbox, .msg, .vcf, .icsSenders, recipients and message bodies, including encoded ones; contact cards and calendar invites.
Text and web.txt, .html, .xml, .json, .md, .log, .rtfPlain text, markup and data exports, plus mailto: links and addresses written as name [at] domain [dot] com.
Archives.zip, .epubEvery supported file inside, so you can drop a whole folder as one ZIP.

Have a name but no address? The Email Permutator lists every format it could use, and the Company Email Pattern Finder works out the one a company uses. Combining lists? The Duplicate Email Finder shows which addresses repeat across them.

Frequently Asked Questions

What files can I extract email addresses from?

PDF, Word (DOCX and DOC), Excel (XLSX and XLS), CSV, PowerPoint, OpenDocument, EML and MBOX email files, Outlook MSG, vCard contacts, calendar invites, HTML, XML, JSON, text and ZIP archives of any of these. Other files are scanned for any text they contain.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Files are read entirely in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to our servers or stored, so you can use it with confidential documents.

Does it work with scanned PDFs?

No. A scanned PDF is a picture of the page, with no text to read. Run it through an OCR tool first, then extract emails from the result.

Is there a file size limit?

Each file can be up to 25 MB, and you can add up to 20 files at a time. For larger sets, put the files in a ZIP.

Does it remove duplicate emails?

Yes. Addresses are merged regardless of capital letters, and each one shows how many times it appeared and in which files.

Can it find hidden email addresses?

Yes. It finds addresses written as name [at] domain [dot] com, encoded HTML entities, and email links behind text in PDFs and Word documents.
